Corporate Angel Network: Stories from the Field

In March 2018, Savoya proudly announced its partnership with the Corporate Angel Network (CAN), which helps arrange private transportation to specialized treatments and clinical trials for cancer patients, bone marrow donors and recipients, and stem cell donors and recipients.

Because these patients often have severely depleted immune systems, they cannot afford the risk of infection associated with crowded travel. That’s where CAN—in partnership with companies like Savoya, NetJets and other private transportation providers—enters the picture.

To date, Savoya has been able to complete more than 15 missions with CAN. Recently, their executive director shared two stories with our team that demonstrate the impact these arrangements can have on families affected by serious illness.

Joseph, a 2-year-old boy battling a rare cancer:

“Joseph was being treated at New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. When he was ready to be discharged home, his mother called Corporate Angel Network to request a flight home to Phoenix, Arizona. The only available flight was from Philadelphia—a two hour car ride away.  Having no car, and not being able to afford a car service to Philadelphia, she said that they would not be able to take the flight home. Thanks to Savoya’s generosity, Joseph and his mother were driven to the Philadelphia airport to catch a Corporate Angel Network flight home to Arizona.”

Rick, an adult patient who recently received a stem cell transplant:

“His specialized treatment was scheduled to take place in Corpus Christi, Texas. After the transplant, he requested a flight home to upstate New York. The Corporate Angel Flight that was available was departing from Houston—a three hour drive from Corpus Christi. Savoya came to the rescue and drove Rick to Houston so that he could fly home in comfort – away from a crowded terminal and airplane.”

Our participation in this program is just one of the ways Savoya delivers on our brand promise: guided by principle, grateful to serve and restless in our pursuit of excellence.
