Savoya’s Partnership with the Corporate Angel Network

In March 2018, Savoya joined forces with the Corporate Angel Network (CAN) to support its mission of transporting cancer patients and those with other serious illnesses to recognized treatment centers at no cost. By providing free ground transportation on either end of a CAN flight, Savoya enables the Corporate Angel Network’s to provide complete door-to-door service in several cities throughout the United States.

“Our partnership with Savoya has literally made flights possible that our patients would have said no to, if we couldn’t offer this service,” states Gina Russo, CAN’s Executive Director. “While the flight is very important for getting people to and from care, many patients are traveling numerous times for treatment, and the expense of traveling on the ground to get to the FBO where the plane is taking off and getting from the FBO to the hospital becomes very, very overwhelming for them.”

That’s more than 3 trips across the United States.

We have a 10-year-old patient who is fighting cancer for the third time. She was just just discharged from the Cleveland Clinic and needed to get home to Tennessee. We had a flight available from Pittsburgh to Tennessee, and the only way she and her mom would be able to take that flight is if we could safely and comfortably get them from Cleveland to Pittsburgh.

We used Savoya to drive her and her mom, and after the trip, her mom told us, "We had had a very hard day. She had a lot of bandages removed. There was a lot of work done on a wound that was very painful. It was overwhelming." But the shining star of her day was when she was picked up in a beautiful car, taken safely and comfortably to a plane, and got to fly home with her daughter with no hassle.

We have a gentleman that we've used Savoya's service for several times. He lives in Lexington, Kentucky, and he's flying out of an Ohio airport. He has family on one side that can pick him up, but would really have no way of getting to the FBO on the other side of the flight. His treatment varies, so he never knows exactly how long he'll be away from home. So it’s challenging for him to leave a car for an indefinite amount of time, particularly because his family only has one vehicle and he'd be leaving his wife and children with no car if he was to park his vehicle there. It really is a priceless service.

CAN partners with 500 of America’s leading corporations to utilize extra seats on private flights to transport cancer patients, bone marrow donors and recipients, and stem cell donors and recipients to specialized treatments and clinical trials. With the generosity of its sponsors, CAN has enabled over 52,000 flights for cancer patients since its founding in 1981. While alleviating the financial burden of long distance travel for patients, CAN’s private flights also help reduce the risk of exposure posed to immune-deficient patients by commercial flights and provide for a more comfortable, less stressful experience.
